Gemologist Process Specimens With our talented volunteer tutors, learn skills of cutting & polishing gemstones en cabochon or faceted and then setting the stone
Instruction classes with attendance over several sessions Faceting Cabochoning Jewellery Silversmithing To attend the classes please notify interest to the club.
When sufficient people have registered interest and an instructor is available you will be notified and requested to confirm attendance
Course Notes and Books All of the classes are very much hands on and introduce a lot of new and unfamiliar techniques, tools and terminology. So it is a help to be prepared to do some background reading in your own time.
Maps for Field Use This is a service under development to provide useful information in the field to club members.
The service is available on a seperate web link and is available to club members upon request. Please ask well before departing on a field trip for the link. Practice is required. Please make sure you access just before departing so as latest updates can be downloaded for offline access on your mobile phone.

Purchasing at counter The club keeps a stock of tools and material for sale at the club.
Using Order Book for Purchasing The club has a new hard cover ‘order book’ in the office area.
This is used by club committee members and course instructors to order stock for club and course use.
To order for your personal you can request a club committee member to place an order for you in the order book
Fossicking Calendar 2021 The club organises between three and five fossicking trips each year for members.
As a field trip approaches updates will be available through the next upcoming fieldtrip page. You can bookmark this page.
Shortly before a field trip commences all updates and direction will be through field trip officers. Please make sure you know who your field trip officers are and that you have spoken to them or speak to them as soon as possible after arriving.
Gemologist Gemologists identify and verbally evaluate gems.
Vic Lahtinen, one of the club’s gemologists, is available on Saturdays and Wednesdays from 9am to 10am at the club.
You do not need to be a member.
Vic has access to suitable equipment to help him identify gems.
Vic and his colleagues also identify minerals specimens.
