President's Report Mar 2020, including upcoming activities and events

Hello Everybody,

The Management Committee will be appointing a new committee member at the next Management Committee meeting. Members interested in being on the committee can apply by contacting a committee member before March 21st.

Due to the rise in the wholesale price of silver, the club has adjusted the sale price of silver.

There are many members looking forward to the field trip over the Easter long weekend. Let’s hope it rains heaps between now and then, to ensure of fine weather on that weekend. We will be walking specking and fossicking for sapphires round the Lava Plains fossicking fields. We will be camping at Pinnarendi Station. If you are attending, please book on the trip sheet on the club notice board. This way we can pre-book all the camp sites by 16th March. Gem Festival stall holder application forms have been posted and emailed to last year’s stall holders. All new stall holders are welcome to apply now. We are currently gathering prizes for the Gem Festival Raffle. If anyone could make or donate a worthy prize, that will help sell tickets it would be greatly appreciated.

The Cairns Show is on15th, 16th and 17th of July so it is time to begin making our entries to enter in the Arts and Crafts Section. This is good publicity for the Club and hobby.

There is still one position available for the Basic Silver Jewellery course starting on Saturday 14th March from 9 to 12 and runs for 6 weeks. No Stone unturned will be printing off Trevor’s notes over the next couple of months, for you to keep for referencing.

A Lost Wax Casting session will be on Sunday 15th March.

Faceting and Cabochon Courses are available Monday evenings, Wednesday or Saturday mornings. Book at the front counter.

Congratulations to Debbie Bloomfield for completing her Cabochon Course and to Robyn Van Voss and Stevie Lovett for completing the Basic Silver Course.

Part of the club’s history has just been removed. The old vertical cabochon sanding discs that have been in use for the past 50 years or so, sanding thousands of cabochons will be replaced by modern machinery.

New fire escape plans have been posted in the club house. Please familiarise yourself with them.

Fire Drill: Evacuate building using correct exits and assemble in the car park area so we can do a head count and check the Sign-in & Sign-out Book.
